Dear Cherubs,

Some parking situations require a little patience, others require a reversing camera, and then there are those that leave your van suspended between a residential building and a retaining wall. Welcome to downtown Acworth, Georgia, where one driver’s journey took a rather unexpected turn.

An unusual crash on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2026, left a van wedged several feet above the ground after it struck a townhome in the Georgia city. Remarkably, despite the dramatic position of the vehicle, the driver reportedly suffered only minor injuries.

The incident attracted attention after photographs and videos showed the van trapped at an extraordinary angle, with part of the vehicle hanging above the pavement.

A Turn That Went Seriously Wrong

According to reports from WSB-TV and local authorities, the crash happened as an 82-year-old Acworth man was attempting to turn from Northside Drive onto Lemon Street.

Police said the driver misjudged the turn. In an attempt to avoid the median, he overcorrected, and his foot slipped onto the accelerator, sending the van into a nearby townhome.

The impact left the vehicle wedged between the building and a retaining wall, suspended approximately 10 feet above the ground.

It was certainly not the sort of architectural feature the property owners had ordered.

The Acworth Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched at approximately 6:45 p.m. on October 13. Emergency responders arrived to find the vehicle trapped in an awkward position, requiring a carefully coordinated rescue.

A Delicate Rescue Operation

Acworth police, Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, Metro EMS and a towing team responded to the incident.

Firefighters first had to stabilise the vehicle before safely extracting the driver. With the van effectively caught between two structures, this was not a straightforward case of opening the door and asking someone to step out.

According to local reporting, the driver was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for further medical evaluation. Cobb County Fire officials described his injuries as minor.

The outcome could have been considerably worse, given the vehicle’s position and the force involved in the collision.

Authorities also indicated there was no evidence suggesting alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

For residents, however, the immediate concern was understandably the impact on the townhome itself. A vehicle striking a residential building raises questions about possible structural damage, although the available reports did not establish the extent of any damage or whether residents were displaced.

The van eventually had to be carefully removed, bringing an end to a rescue operation that was considerably more complicated than your average roadside recovery.

The incident is also a reminder that even familiar roads and routine manoeuvres deserve attention. A moment of misjudgement can turn an ordinary journey into an emergency involving firefighters, police officers and specialist recovery crews.

Fortunately, the most important detail is that the driver survived with reportedly minor injuries.

As for the van, it might be time to reconsider its parking arrangements. Some spaces really are better left unoccupied.
