Dear Cherubs, Murcia appears to have acquired a new superhero, and frankly, the casting department has been rather inventive. Meet La Garza Negra, a masked young man from Llano de Brujas who says he patrols the streets at night to help people who need it.

THE MASKED MURCIAN

La Garza Negra emerged on TikTok in May 2026, introducing himself as a local superhero whose mission was, in his own words, to protect, save and help people in Murcia. Within days, his videos were attracting serious attention online.

According to La 7, one of his early videos passed one million views, while he said he had received more than 500 messages from people asking for help. Other reporting at the time put his following at more than 15,000 after only two videos. The algorithm, apparently, had decided Murcia needed Batman.

His identity remains deliberately private. He wears an all-black costume and mask, and has said that keeping his identity hidden is important for personal and family security.

The character reportedly began with a homemade costume and an enthusiasm for superheroes. The name is a nod to Llano de Brujas, where the garza is a local symbol. So, no billionaire cave, no Wayne Manor and presumably no Alfred quietly judging the wardrobe.

Instead, La Garza Negra says he helps with ordinary problems: distributing food to people in need, helping locate homes for lost animals and assisting neighbours with everyday tasks.

THE NIGHT SHIFT

There is also a more serious side to the story. La 7 reported that he described his activities as taking place in collaboration with police and firefighters. He also said he had gone to a police station to report a suspected incident involving drugs and weapons.

Those claims should be understood as his account of his activities, rather than evidence that he has any official law-enforcement role. He is a volunteer-style internet personality, not a masked branch of the Spanish state. Sadly, there is no checkbox for “vigilante superhero” on most employment forms.

By September, the character was still generating attention. A September 22 podcast episode featuring La Garza Negra described a conversation about his costume, anonymity, encounters with police and the rapid growth of the project, which was reported to have reached millions of views.

That may be the most interesting part of the phenomenon. La Garza Negra is less about superhuman powers than about the modern internet’s ability to turn a local eccentric idea into a national conversation almost overnight.

Spain has had fictional heroes, folk legends and plenty of people who probably think they are Batman after two coffees. But La Garza Negra is different because he is a real person deliberately creating a superhero identity in public.

Whether the character becomes a lasting community project, a social-media curiosity or simply one gloriously strange chapter in Murcia’s history remains to be seen.

For now, though, the night has a new silhouette.

And somewhere in Murcia, someone has apparently decided that ordinary citizens deserve their own superhero.

Low-key? We are absolutely watching this one.
